Kelston Girls’ College: Tumuaki Announcement

27 November 2024

Tēnā koutou,

Kelston Girls’ College: Tumuaki Announcement

I am very pleased to announce that Talia McNaughton has been appointed as our new Tumuaki with effect from the beginning of the 2025 school year. Currently the Programme Director of Literacy & Numeracy at Tui Tuia | Learning Circle at the University of Auckland, Talia brings a wealth of educational and leadership experience to the role having served as Deputy Tumuaki at Onehunga High School from 2015 to 2023. She is highly qualified with an MA (Honours) degree and is currently studying towards her Doctor of Education, researching culturally sustaining senior leadership.

Talia is excited about the opportunity to lead Kelston Girls’ College into the future. She acknowledges the very sad passing of the previous principal, Sarah Stenson, whose legacy will be a guiding light for her.

Talia is a former trustee of Royal Oak Primary School, has served on a number of educational stakeholder groups, and has successfully led strategic growth initiatives. She is the proud mother of two daughters, Anahera and Kahukura, who attend Epsom Girls Grammar School. Talia’s partner, Morgan Rangi, is a Deputy Principal at Rosehill College, and a number of other members of her extended family also hold very senior educational leadership positions.

In Talia’s words – “My educational philosophy is captured within the whakatauākī “Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa.” This whakatauākī emphasises the importance of collaboration and unity, which, for me, is vital for a school leader to ensure a school community's collective well-being.”

Our kura will welcome Talia with a formal powhiri at the beginning of the 2025 school year.  Details of this event will be shared soon.

Nāku iti noa, nā
