Ngā Toa o Kerehana: Academic Mentoring & Well-being Support

Ngā Toa o Kerehana is Kelston Girls' College's academic mentoring programme.

It represents a strong, sustainable journey toward success, focusing on "Building on where you are today, to where you will be in the future".

The programme is structured by year level (Years 9–13, plus Junior and Senior Bilingual classes) and operates during dedicated slots on the timetable. This programme ensures every student has a strong connection with a staff member who acts as their guide, advocate, and academic coach throughout their time at the College.

Our Core Philosophy

Ngā Toa o Kerehana is built on three guiding principles:

  • We Empower (Ka Whakamana)

  • We Challenge (Ka Werowero)

  • We Celebrate (Ka Whakanui)

The Kerehana Kaiako Role

The Ngā Toa o Kerehana Kaiako plays a pivotal role in the student's journey. The Kaiako is the student's coach through their time at Kelston, moving up with the class to build a solid, long-term connection with the student and their whānau.

The Kaiako is responsible for:

  • Being the first point of contact for whānau.

  • Academic Mentoring: Tracking curriculum progress and leading academic conversations.

  • Advocacy: Checking on student engagement throughout their learning journey.
