Since its official establishment in 1963, we have cultivated a strong tradition of academic, cultural, arts, and sporting excellence. We are not just proud of our past, we are actively shaping our students as culturally connected ākonga to be confident agents of change for the future.
1954: A Foundation of Growth: The school began as a co-educational institution. Rapid growth and the recognised need for a focused environment for young women led to its segregation in 1959, and the formal establishment of Kelston Girls’ High School in 1963.
Unique Legacy: We hold a unique and important place in the region, being the only state secondary school exclusively dedicated to the education and empowerment of young women in West Auckland.
The College Era: Following our 50th jubilee in 2004, our name was formally updated to Kelston Girls' College, signalling our focus on learning pathways to set our students up for future pathways and preparation for tertiary education.
