During the July holidays we participated in an amazing 21 day camp called ‘Outward Bound’, which was based in a small village called Anakiwa in the Marlborough region of the South Island. Throughout the 21 days we did a variety of team bonding, leadership skills and activities such as tramping, high ropes, kayaking, sailing, rock climbing and so much more. Some activities took days, others hours to complete, however the main purpose of each was to grow a knowledge and understanding of what it takes to lead a group and how to be part of a team.
Kurt Hahn, the founder of the course once said ‘’There is more to us than we know, if we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less’’. This is something we both can understand and relate to because throughout the 21 day course, even though we had some hard and fun times, each moment had its own meaning, which makes us who we are today.
This course was an extraordinary chance to widen the mindset and challenge us to the extreme. Outward Bound was the greatest experience of all time. We learnt so much about the environment, how to build confidence, but most important, was learning about ourselves.
