As of 2pm on 26th September Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) advises that there are now 1246 confirmed cases of measles in Auckland. As many of us travel around the city to visit friends or family, it is important to watch out for any of the following symptoms and to contact your Doctor with any concerns.
- Runny nose.
- Sore red eyes
- Rash starting behind the ears spreading to the rest of the body.
If you have any of the above symptoms do not just turn up at your Doctors, as measles is highly infectious you could infect all other people in the waiting room.
Do NOT come to school or visit any public places.
Contact Healthline on 0800 611 116 or visit www.arphs.govt.nz for advice
The best way to prevent measles is to be immunised on time, with two free MMR vaccinations for all children at 15 months and four years.
If you are not sure if you or your family members are immunised Please contact your GP as they hold this information. If you are not immunised against measles they can vaccinate you at the clinic.
