Kelston Girls’ College placed second in the Oceania Category on the ASB Polyfest Diversity Stage. They performed on Wednesday the 23rd of March to an online audience.
“Our girls did really well to have such a small group perform and still place in the top 2. Proud of them”, commented tutor Sereima Dulakiverata.
Despite girls being in isolation, practicing through Zoom and not having the weekends at school, the group managed to produce a polished performance.
This year’s theme was “Whanau” and the Fijian group interpreted the theme around the concept of 'Vuvale', which means family. It describes the interconnectedness between people. Fijians can trace their connections with each other through the lyrics of meke and stories passed on through the generations. 'Vuvale' is seen through the smiles and heard in the joy expressed in the singing and rhythm. It evokes memories of families getting together. The meke performed was a celebration of the interconnectedness of the 'Vuvale' - with our ancestors, with our natural environment and with each other.
On behalf of the group, we would like to thank our Kelston Vuvale for all your loloma and support.
