Trades Academy
Flying start to the year for Te Arataki ki te uru Trades Academy. We are very lucky here at Kelston Girls' to be able to run a Secondary Tertiary Partnership programme (these used to be called Trades Academies). This means that we receive funding from the government to send some of our students to tertiary programmes at Private training providers or Polytechnics for one day a week. The students combine these programmes with their normal school timetable. This means they get the chance to achieve NCEA Level 2 or 3 while also trying out tertiary courses and gaining credits towards future study. This year we have the following courses available:
The courses have all started and the students are having a great time. This term our hospitality students will be focussing on cooking meals with seafood and eggs, our Outdoor Education students will be doing a high ropes course, our IT students will be learning about databases and spreadsheets and our Early Childhood students will be learning about nutrition and diversity along with looking at the organisation of Early Childhood centres. Any enquiries about these courses can be sent to Ms Amber Hinson at a.hinson@kelstongirls.school.nz.
