Māori Language Week:
At Kelston Girls’ College we are celebrating Māori Language Week (September 14-20 or 14-20 Mahuru)
Ahakoa iti, akona korerotia – Learn a little, use a little
We have book displays for students to come into the Library and read and learn about other languages.
In the Library we encourage students to borrow books to read. As per usual they can borrow up to 4 books. Speak to our experienced Librarian if you need any help with your selections. Look out for the Book of the Week
We have an awesome ever growing quick read section, this is our focus for this year, to help get reluctant readers reading. We have a great “New Arrivals” area and on the other side of that is our “Recent Arrivals” (both fiction), on our centre table we have a beautiful large book “Aotearoa – The New Zealand Story” and two new David Riley books (The Pacific Heroes collection – the third has been issued out already).
All non fiction and reference books are now in the study area of the Library.
We also have an ever changing book of the week at the Circulation Desk, beautiful new art from the Art Dept with more to come over time.
To tie with some of the classes work this term, we also have a wall display of “books that have been made into movies”.
Each month the display “Free Events in Auckland this month” is updated.
We would love to see you visiting the Library. Our very experienced Librarian is always on hand to help with book choices etc.
Language weeks are an ideal opportunity for students to come in and select relevant books. It is a great way for everyone to learn about other cultures and for the students to get familiar with the Library. Our Librarian is happy to help you choose relevant books:
