Auckland Regional Council - Enviroschools - SILVER AWARD
Congratulations to our Environmental Committee who recently won the Auckland Regional Council Silver Award.
This award is in recognition for our achievement in working towards becoming sustainable, not only in our school environment but also in the wider community.
2008 Young Designer of the Year CompetitionTautau Sione was placed second in the NZ 2008 Young Designer of the Year Competition. Congratulations and best wishes to Tautau on this wonderful achievement.
The Trust's Secondary School Students' Art Scholarship 2008
Congratulations to Caroline Paepae who won the above scholarship which was held at Lopdell House (see Caroline's artwork in our Photo Gallery)
This year, 32 aspiring young artists from 8 different high schools have entered into the competition and exhibition.
The judges Simon Clarke, AUT design lecturer and Richard Lewe, McCahon Residency artist and Wallace Award winner have now made their selection.
The talented winner of this year's award is Caroline Paepae with her entry, Life and After. She will receive a scholarship of $5,000 towards her tertiary art studiies. $500 will also be given to her art department at Kelston Girls College.
Unitec West Sci Community Scholarship
Congratulations to Rachel Tupou in winning the above Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding ability in the Sciences (see photo in our Photo Gallery).
This award is given to a Pacific student who displays outstanding academic success, especially in the area of science, as well as someone who is involved in some form of community work. The successful applicant must be enrolled in a science tertiary course, at any tertiary institution of their choice.
Pat Hanly Student Membership Award
Congratulations to Luisa Fuimaono and Danielle Jelleyman who were recognised for their contribution to the Arts when they received the above award (see photo in our Photo Gallery).
Each student received a certificate, art supplies plus a two-year membership to the Friends of the Gallery which includes discount art books and exhibition admission as well as an invitation to exhibit in the annual Student Art Exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery.
Envrionmental Committee
The Environmental Committee have worked extremely hard this year with a focus on environmental issues. Amongst their many achievements are:
· Paper collection / recycling programme
· Plants which are grown from seed and either used in our school gardens or sold to raise funds
· Their current project is establishing a nature walk of native plantings
Congratulations to all Committee members and Gayathri Pillai and Katherine Mante for their ongoing support of these students.
'Bring it On'
The Kelston Girls' College 'Bring it On' team came third in the Western Zone Section and delivered an outstanding performance. Congratulations to all students and Teacher in Charge, Jessica McCartney.
