Tuvaluan Group

The Kelston Girls’ Tuvaluan group first performed at the Maori and Pacific Island Festival in 2006.  This was the first time that a school Tuvaluan group had performed at the festival and this created a lot of interest.  A painting of some of the group in their costumes was painted by their group manager and art teacher, Miss Geddes, and this was purchased by some of the teachers and donated to the school to mark this special occasion. This year the group reformed to perform again in the non-competitive section at the festival, under the guidance of Mrs Toia and student leaders Hermina Hotesi and Laivae Lavata. The group enjoyed performing and showing their culture to the other students at the polyfest and fia fia.  At this concert the dance being performed is the siva-fatele.  Some of the girls will maneanea (add enthusiasm to the dance!)
