Kerehana Kapa Haka
Tena Koutou Katoa
It was an honour and a privilege to be part of the Kerehana group at the Maori and Pacific Island Festival. We had five weeks to prepare for this festival with five disciplines to complete - Whakaeke, Moteatea, Poi, Waiata- a- ringa Haka and Whakawatea. It is an awesome feeling to perform for your school, whanau, hapu and iwi. The ihi and wehi when we performed was an awesome feeling. This kaupapa enabled our group to show the beauty and Kaha of our ancestor’s culture. We practiced during the week and weekends. We also had two noho marae (sleep overs) on our school marae. It is very important to keep up with your studies. Being a member in this roopu has taught me about time management. We were placed fourth in the Koanga section and received the following certificates :
Haka - First
Waiata-a-ringa - Second
Whakawatea/Exit - Third
Even though we did not win this section we all had fun and that we all gave it our best. He mihi nui to our tutors/ our Kaiako also Papa Lincoln/ Te Matarai I o Rehu, Whaea Keri/ Te Waka Huia, Whaea Parehuia/ Te Rautahi, Tawhairiri and Aperahama for their matauranga (knowledge), passion and commitment to this kaupapa. Nga mihi to the Kerehana tawhito (the ex- students of Kerehana) who continue to return each year to support this kaupapa. To our parents, whanau and friends for your support also. Lastly to Mrs Fox and Senior management for your support towards this kaupapa.
Kerehana e tu Paiaha ra!
